Welcome to Heron
Pond Elementary School!
Completed in
2001, Heron Pond Elementary School is Milford’s newest school. It was
originally built for students in grades two through four. With the completion
of the 2006 addition, it now houses second through fifth grade students. Even
with such a large student body, we strive to maintain a personal connection with
all of our students. To help achieve this, we have implemented Responsive
Classroom techniques throughout the school. The focus of this program is to
develop and maintain a sense of community and responsibility for ourselves, each
other, and our facilities.
Heron Pond Elementary School
offers our students a full range of academic and social support. Our counselors
are actively involved with all classrooms. The Monarch Program, our gifted and
talented support, is available to children in grades three through five. An
extensive special education offering is designed to meet the needs of all of our
students.
Our curriculum is
based on the New Hampshire State Standards. We use the Harcourt Trophies
reading series and the Everyday Math program. Our science and social studies
curricula are designed to address specific state standard skills sets and
units. All students receive art, music, and physical education instruction on a
weekly basis. In addition, students in grades 4 and 5 may elect to participate
in our instrumental music program. Our entire curriculum is developmentally
based.
We have an active
Parent Teacher Organization (please check out their link) and encourage parents
to volunteer both in school and for PTO events. Please remember to pick up your
visitor’s sticker in the main office whenever you enter the school. Safety is
one of our highest priorities.
Please feel free
to contact your child’s teacher or the office should you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Peter Bonaccorsi, Principal
