By the Discussion Questions

There is no text book assigned for this course; however, each week students will be expected to prepare for each class with the necessary research to complete the planning and work towards each performance.

Students need to keep a course Journal. It would be best if this is kept in an electronic file format like Microsoft Word. There should be at least one entry for every week of class. This will be turned in for final review at the end of the course, but forwarding the the file or printing a copy for instructors is welcome if you would like feedback. The journal entries should each cover three areas:

1) Reflection of the Saturday's class' successes, frustrations, and questions.

2) Things you want to put down in writing so you're sure to remember.

3) Responses to Online (Yahoo group discussion questions) posted at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Riverbend_iTheater/.

Additionally, there will be a Distance Education (DE) component added to the course where students and instructors will share in online discussion questions and answers. The forum for this DE is:

By the Lesson Objectives

Each lesson includes instructor-led lecture, a specific activity for students to demonstrate their understanding: writing a set of responses in the online forum and using the equipment associated with the lecture, and then specific use of the sound equipment that is performance-related.

Below is a list of lesson objectives for which students will demonstrate mastery. Each item should connect to all areas of the performance production, including what the writer, producer, talent, and sound effects person wants to accomplish.

  1. Identify the sound equipment needed for a set of specific purposes.
  2. Care for and use of sound equipment - best practices.
  3. Connect and store sound equipment.
  4. Troubleshoot sound equipment errors and problems.

To help begin each lesson, students will

  1. First create a list of production details that need to be answered/addressed by the course instructors for each script.

  2. Students will select a "responsible lead person" for each given task. For example, a mic person, an instrument person, a sound FX, etc.
